DIY: Cleaning Stainless Steel Appliances

Do you have stainless steel kitchen appliances? They look great when they are new, but how do you clean them and keep them shiny bright? I hope my tips help you!

Okay, I am still glad that I chose stainless steel appliances. There's just something about that shiny gleam, and my kitchen looks so "upgraded"! But when it came to cleaning, I was not pleased!

I tried several products that said they would work on Stainless Steel (including Windex), but none worked as well as I expected. The appliances were clean, but they didn't look clean. There were always fingerprints, etc., that the cleansers would not remove.

Fortunately, my daughter-in-law Ashley and son Jacob bought a new stainless steel refrigerator shortly after I bought mine.

Their delivery man shared a priceless tip: Use baby oil!

I tried Johnson's Baby Oil, and it works!

My new cleaning routine is:
  • First, wipe the surface with a wet cloth which has a small amount of diluted Dawn Dish Washing Liquid on it. (Do a small area, about 2' x 2', at a time.)
  • "Rinse" with a wet cloth.
  • Dry thoroughly with a soft cloth.
  • After the whole appliance is clean, fold a soft dish cloth, and squeeze a few drops of baby oil on it.
  • Rub the baby oil onto the appliance.
  • Turn the cloth to the dry side and rub to remove any excess baby oil. Continue rubbing with the dry side to buff to a sheen.

My kitchen appliances look new again!!
