It's a Pokemon Birthday Party! Have you heard of Pokemon? Do you know what Pokemon means? Enjoy my grandson Noah's birthday celebration as you check out the Pokemon Goody Bags, Pokemon Poster, Pokemon Pinata, and Pokemon Cake and Cupcakes, complete with Pokemon Cupcake Picks!
First order of business: what does Pokemon mean? I knew my boys had watched Pokemon when they were kids, and now the grand-kids enjoy it, but I didn't know the meaning. With a little research, I found out that Pokemon's origin is from the name of a Japanese video game. Pokemon means "pocket monster".
We decided to use the symbol for the Pokemon Ball, or Poke Ball, as our inspiration for the decorations and goodies!
I drew one of Noah's favorite Pokemon, Exploud, on a sheet of poster board. Noah used markers to color it, and we displayed it at the party.
Duncan Hines Butter Golden Cake Mix was used for the cupcakes. An M-1 tip was used to pipe buttercream icing onto the cupcakes. Red colored sugars and sprinkles were added. Handmade Poke ball Picks were then added to the cupcakes.
Pillsbury Moist Supreme Devil's Food Cake Mix (w/pudding in the mix) was used for the 2-layer Poke Ball Cake. Heejin used buttercream icing to frost the cake. She then tinted pre-made fondant black and cut embellishments from it to complete the cake. Pokemon candles were purchased at Party City.
A Fresh Fruit Tray with pineapples, grapes, strawberries, and cantelope was cool and refreshing, and very popular! The kids loved it! It was half gone before I could snap the picture!
The main dish for the party was, you guessed it, PIZZA, PIZZA, PIZZA!!
Pizza by the pool! It doesn't get better than this! |

This pool party needed a game! The kids enjoyed guessing, "How many Caterpie are in the jar?" In case you don't know, Caterpie are the larvae, or worm stage, of a Pokemon. We filled our plastic jar with Gummy Worms and used clear Contac paper to attach a label to the jar. The lucky (and happy) winner won the jar of Caterpie!

Wonderful! It is very important to have a theme for a birthday party. It limits the options and makes it easy to focus on one particular thing for decoration, arrangement and food. This is one theme I haven’t picked up for any of my kids’ birthday. Would love to do it this time as I have booked one of the venues in Chicago for my daughter’s birthday.
ReplyDeletePokemon was a great party theme. Thanks for commenting!
